Geri Alva is a fashion and beauty illustrator who uses her prodigious figurative skills to effortlessly capture the beauty and elegance of the women she creates. Whether it’s a portrait or an illustration for a fashion magazine, she establishes her forms with a few adept sweeps of her arm, then adds in the detail, leaving just enough to the viewer’s imagination to keep them engaged with the image.
Originally from Haiti, Geri grew up in Canada and is based in Montreal. She studied fashion design at Lasalle College and graphic design at Ahuntsic College before diving into the world of fashion and beauty illustration. Clients enjoy working with her thanks to her intuitive approach and attention to detail.
Geri lives and breathes fashion, and started reading Vogue at the age of 14. Clothes, glamour, flowers, stars and modern architecture are all sources of inspiration for her.
Images always begin on fine art paper, with graphite pencils or pastels. When the concept has been established, Geri scans the drawing in and develops it further in Photoshop and/or on her iPad.
Using minimal lines and strong contrast, Geri draws the eye to her focal point quickly and effectively, then holds your attention with dashes of detail and/or color. Parts of each work often blend into the background, generating a hint of intrigue.
