Chad Patterson

Chad Patterson - TN, USA based illustrator

Supremely well-crafted hand-rendered lettering and intricate line-work illustrations are the forté of South Carolina-based artist Chad Patterson. From labels and signage through to murals that cover entire walls, he captures the essence and authenticity of his clients’ brands and gives them an extra injection of originality.
Chad has studied artistic styles and techniques from the 19th century up to the 1970s, bringing retro elements of engraving, woodcuts and old printing techniques into his work, alongside his exceptional calligraphic skills. He gets to know his clients and what makes them unique then uses his understanding of type from different eras to bring that out through custom lettering. Chad loves to push the limits of design and exceed client expectations every time.

Approach

With a whole library of creative techniques and lettering styles at his disposal, Chad hones in on the right look while sketching. He works in both pen and ink and digitally, switching between the two during his creative process until the piece looks just right.

Style

Chad’s style features strong clear line work, while his attention to detail gives it an edgy sense of sophistication. Washes of colour enhance the tone, atmosphere and depth, with his palette usually determined by the requirements of the project.
