Jack Sweet - United Kingdom based illustrator

From maps and landscapes to close-up scenes of daily life, Jack Sweet is an illustrator who captures a joyful, intricate world within each image he creates. Rich in colour and layered in storytelling, these worlds are full of the little details that make the settings and the people inhabiting them all the more alive.
Jack’s unique visual language has come about through combining his architectural training with a desire to bring colour, energy and personality to the imagery he draws. He takes inspiration from his time working as an architect in Bangalore, India, and from working on community building projects across London. Both experiences have driven him to create illustrations that spark conversation and resonate with audiences from different backgrounds. Clients enjoy the attention to detail Jack brings to each brief, and the way he uses nuanced storytelling elements they often hadn’t considered. With a BA in Architecture from Newcastle University, followed by an MA from Central Saint Martins, he takes historical inspiration from medieval paintings and Mughal miniature art, as well as post-modern architecture and children’s books like Stephen Biesty’s Incredible Cross Sections.

Approach

Jack’s approach is built on his background in architecture. He often uses 3D models as the foundations, then plays with architectural plan, section, elevation and axonometric views to assemble an image that tells a story and creates a feeling. With the materiality of the built environment as a base, he adds a bold colour palette that brings everything to life.
