DK Science Stories Series - Project Penicillin by Isabel Thomas

Miracle Mold

Weston Wei creates illustrations for the DK Science Stories Series - Project Penicillin by Isabel Thomas.

Weston's commission was to create illustrations for Project Penicillin, a STEM narrative that follows the discovery and development of penicillin during the 1940s.

The book traces the journey from Alexander Fleming’s initial observation of a 'miracle mold' to the urgent, wartime effort to turn it into a life-saving antibiotic.

His illustrations carry the pace of this race against time, moving through laboratories, research teams, and moments of scientific problem-solving with a clear, story-led rhythm. They help guide readers; an audience of 9-12 years,  through both the historical setting and the unfolding process of discovery.
