Cult Film

For Little White Lies issue 114, Andrei Nicolescu responds to articles on cult cinema and experimental filmmaking.

A tattoo provided the spark for one of Andrei's recent commissions for Little White Lies. Created for Under World USA, an article on the enduring appeal and influence of filmmaker Kenneth Anger, the illustration draws on Anger's well-known Lucifer tattoo, reworking it through Andrei's graphic, retro-tinged approach.

His second piece accompanied Monster Movies, a feature on Bruno Forzani and Hélène Cattet and their mission to turn exploitation cinema into what the article describes as audio-visual dreams. For the image, Andrei imagined the directing duo as surgeons dissecting horror films, placing them inside the kind of world they have spent years reinterpreting on screen.
