For her interpretation of The Tale of Ivan Tsarevich, the Grey Wolf, the Firebird, and Elena the Fair, Victoria combines folklore motifs with references to the European avant-garde. Each spread is built around carefully structured compositions, with generous areas of white space set against intricate cross-hatched details inspired by antique engravings.
Deep grey and graphic black sit alongside touches of gold and flashes of red, creating a striking contrast across the series. The illustrations form part of a wider project dedicated to Slavic and Persian fairy tales, bringing together artists from several countries in a newly published two-volume collection.
