Now based in Barcelona, and originally from the UK, Kavel Rafferty is an artist who has travelled extensively. She’s lived in Wales, London, Brighton, Valencia and Stockholm.
Kavel collects record sleeves and loves flea markets, 60s and 70s Soul music, mid-20th century design and vintage signage. At least a few of these influences crop up in her work which spans fashion, food, maps, editorial and hand drawn typography. She travels a lot to go to Northern Soul clubs.
Approach
Kavel collects all sorts of paper and ephemera, which she’ll use in her artwork alongside photos she’s taken, drawings and textures. She works on interesting and unusual colourways, and combines all these elements in her images.
Style
Her style is modern, friendly and versatile, with a hint of nostalgia.

Kavel has a great natural style and is always happy to take on our briefs - no matter how detailed they are (or strapped for time we are) - and produces some gorgeous illustrations. Her flexible approach and patience make her a pleasure to work with every time.

Everyone loves the illustrations for both Pairings and Food Science.
You did a fantastic job. We even heard back from the author of the Pairings section and he went on and on about how great he thinks the illustrations look.
It has been a pleasure to work with you, Kavel.
Thank you so much!
Pamela Winn, Fine Cooking Magazine - US
Working with Kavel was an absolute pleasure, with over 60 illustrations in the book we worked in batches. Kavel understood exactly what we were trying to achieve and was very accommodating and all the deadlines were met on time. The day each batch arrived was a day I really looked forward to, it was like unwrapping presents, every one was a gem and her compositions and colour palette worked perfectly. Kavel brings warmth and humour to all her work combining her painting and photoshop skills beautifully with a small nod towards her interest in the 50’s and 60’s. I very much hope we have a chance to work together again soon.
