“I really enjoy illustrating characters, especially women, and placing them in highly graphic settings, but I also enjoy drawing food and objects. My work is very vector-based and colorful, with a distinctive color palette centered around pink, red and black,” says Brazilian illustrator Marina Procházka.
An experienced graphic designer, Marina stepped into the world of illustration in 2018 hoping to rejuvenate her creativity, and she hasn’t looked back. Driven by her personal commitment to women’s rights, female empowerment and the alternative lifestyle, Marina’s artwork has been exhibited all over Brazil. Today, she serves an impressive array of clients that includes global brands and leading publishers.
Music plays a big role in Marina’s creativity. She’s obsessed with alternative rock – bands from The Cure to Hole to The Stooges. Animation like The Powerpuff Girls, Sailor Moon and Nana also provide inspiration. She has a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and postgraduate training in the visual arts.
Approach
A background in graphic design ensures Marina’s compositions always make an impact. She begins by sketching in Procreate or on paper, drawing freely until the ideas solidify. Then she creates the image in vectors adding detail. Sometimes, she also includes traditional elements, experimenting with acrylics and wheatpaste poster printing, for example.Key software
