Caribay M. Benavides

Caribay M. Benavides - Argentina based illustrator

Based in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, Caribay M Benavides is an artist who thrives on joyous, lively artwork with a folksy hint of the surreal and plenty of big, bold colour. She illustrates in a style that’s highly individual and, no matter what the brief, clients enjoy the way she puts the emphasis on fun in her own, unique way.
Growing up in the mountain city of Mérida, Venezuela, Cari moved to Argentina after studying graphic design at Universidad de Los Andes. She has worked as a graphic designer in the world of fashion, and puts all of that experience to use as she creates imagery for consumer, editorial and publishing brands. Fashion and nature are two major sources of inspiration for Cari. She enjoys that are larger than life, and she loves to incorporate various forms from the plant kingdom into her artwork. Cari’s favourite shows include Mad Men, RuPaul’s Drag Race and Seinfeld.

Approach

Each project begins with lots of sketching as Cari focuses on getting everything right before developing the finished illustration. She loves to mix media, using her iPad as well as traditional, hand-made elements.

Style

Fun, feminine, colourful and exuberant – Cari’s unique style captures the feeling through exaggerated forms, poses and expressions, with soft textures often contributing to its creative depth.

Languages

Fluent in English and Spanish
