Killer Wasps

US magazine Virginia Living commission John Holder for an illustration to lead their piece on Cicada Killer Wasps.

The magazine chose John for his for sense of colour,  expression and movement and asked for an amusing piece showing the wasps and their taste for cicadas.

The killer wasps keep the cicada population balanced by offering the paralyzed insect to their young larvae and are particularly busy in the Southern area of the US.
