Flexible and versatile, and with the talent to quickly turn ideas into imagery in an immediate, imaginative and colourful way, Alison Kerry (AKA Alison Czinkota) is an illustrator leading publications and agencies turn to across America and around the world. And, if you happen to be commissioning Zodiac imagery, she’s your first point of call.
Based in East Tennessee, Alison excels at producing line-based illustrations that draw the eye into the subject and capture the essence of the project in a way that’s easy for the viewer to understand. She varies her style and colour palette according to the brief, producing everything from watercolour spot illustrations through to fully detailed scenery and pattern work for her clients.
There is a folk-art feel and a sense of whimsy to many of her artworks and she loves using symbolism alongside elements from nature and mythology as she tells her clients’ stories. With a BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and a family background full of creativity, she is never short of ideas, nor the ability to execute them.
Approach
Alison’s images are born as traditional pencil sketches as she evaluates the compositional options. Then she develops a colour palette, influenced by the season, astrology and/or the requirements of the brief. She finalises each work digitally, incorporating real-world brushstrokes, textures and patterns to ground the image.Style
Bold colours, detailed linework and soft textures feature across Alison’s illustrations, though she varies the finish to suit her client’s needs. Her influences range from Arthur Rackham and Frank Frazetta through to Richard Scarry.
