Rowing up the Cam

Liam O'Farrell paints a section of the River Cam in the University City of Cambridge.

The client requested that rowing should be the focus of the painting with a backdrop of boat houses. Liam says "Cambridge and Oxford are famous for their yearly boat race on the River Thames in London. The first inter university race was in 1829, though of course, the sport of rowing on this site would probably go back way before then. Well, this is one of the sites where Cambridge University draws their team from and where they get a bit of practice in before double maths".  Liam was to paint the client's partner and her four team mates making their way up the river, he continues "...here I had to be extra careful in getting the boat shape and the colours correct. Including the stripes on the oars or blades or whatever. These things are very important to those in the know..." The final illustrated scene now hangs in the client's workplace, leaving Liam slightly more in the know after his crash course in the sport of rowing.
