The Marietta Effect

Matthew Hollings creates illustrations for Marietta College Magazine on the economic impact of the college on the local economy.

The focus of the article was on the alumni, their economic investment post-graduation and its impact on the area. Matthew explains, "The original concept for the cover was to use the game of Monopoly to communicate how college alumni might invest money into different economic sectors, but we ended up thinking that might be a little too suggestive of trade rather than investment, so decided upon piggy banks instead. This image then moved inside the magazine, and a secondary illustration showing students/alumni meeting outside a well-known restaurant/hotel, before a college sporting event, was used on the cover."
