Inspired to Innovate

Katharine Asher shows a piece of work at 'Inspired to Innovate' - an AOI Exhibition at Hoxton Arches, Hackney.

Showing from 10-12th October, the exhibition has been created in order to explore what it means to be innovative in the context of illustration, and asks how this versatile medium can be stretched to its creative limits. Katharine's piece, SPINA has been chosen because of its innovative use of materials. This work visualises the spine as the ‘pillar of being’. It was created to illustrate an article on physical and emotional health. This editorial illustration uses some highly unusual materials, each with a symbolic meaning; metal representing strength and permanence, rust symbolising time, and pigment suspended in medium suggesting emotional randomness.
