King Bin Chicken

Chrissy Lau brings the King Bin Chicken to life for Kogarah’s Uncontained Festival.

Chrissy's towering illuminated ibis and soundscape installation celebrates local character and community in a playful public art collaboration.

She joined forces with Darren Abbott of Earworm Productions for a bold and brilliantly tongue-in-cheek installation at Uncontained, the light festival lighting up Kogarah, NSW last weekend. At the heart of the commission is a 3-meter tall internally lit inflatable ibis - affectionately known in Australia as the 'bin chicken' - perched proudly atop a wheelie bin.

Chrissy's characterful design blends public art with local humor, brought to life through a custom 7-minute soundscape created by Abbott using the ambient sounds of Kogarah and its surrounds.

The result is a synchronised light and sound experience that’s equal parts irreverent and immersive, celebrating place, identity and the oddball charm of suburban Sydney.
