An article exploring the concept of the “flow state”

Sound and Synapse

Carolina Rodriguez Fuenmayor visualises the ‘flow state’ for Rolling Stone’s feature on Mike Gordon and Bob Weir.

In this editorial commission for Rolling Stone, Carolina was invited to illustrate an article exploring the concept of the “flow state” – that elusive, euphoric mental space where creativity and instinct merge.

The feature centres on the collaborative mindsets of Phish’s Mike Gordon and Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir, two musical icons immersed in sonic experimentation. Carolina’s artwork captures the transcendental quality of their process, interpreting it as a moment of melting into sound and dissolving into vivid, kaleidoscopic color.

The result is a mesmerising visual that fuses energy, motion and dreamlike abstraction — a perfect complement to Brandon Sneed’s reflective, free-flowing narrative.
