Darruda - Graphic and psychedelic line illustrator. Brazil

Daniel Arruda’s psychedelic line illustrations are like Yellow Submarine for the space age. Working under the moniker Darruda, the Rio de Janeiro-based artist loves exploring the outer limits of the galaxy and fantastical new worlds where each bizarre character he draws has a story of their own. From indie fast food outlets to major global advertising agencies, Darruda works in partnership with his clients to ensure every project blasts off successfully and every mission is a success.
Trained in graphic design and having worked in a photo studio, Darruda is well versed in the inner workings of the creative industries. Often, he creates wall-sized murals for his clients, and he has his own line of award-winning t-shirt designs, taking inspiration from retro movies and comics, and pop culture from the 1970s, 80s and 90s. His favourite artists include Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, Roy Lichtenstein and Stan Lee. Darruda graduated in Graphic Design from the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Approach Ideas are developed in Darruda’s sketchbook before he redraws them using vector graphics on his Mac. Styles Clean, clear, freehand line work and bold colours reign supreme in Darruda’s work, alongside themes taking us to alternative worlds where anything could happen. With each image, he tries to imagine a story, backing up the overall concept with little details to give it a narrative edge.
