Reducing the Risk

Alex Baker's recent cover for Contemporary OB/GYN is a surgical piece about preventing Ovarian Cancer.

The artwork shows the removal of the fallopian tubes from post-reproductive women who are in for another surgery. Alex continues "This is new news - but it turns out that most ovarian cancers develop from irregular cells on the tips of the fimbria. So this is a study looking at the reduction rates for future ovarian cancers if both fallopian tubes are removed (bilateral salpingectomy) while the patient is in the OR for another unrelated surgery." The article can be found here.
