Londoner Stuart Holmes is now based in Australia’s creative enclave of Melbourne. Trained as a graphic designer, he felt that illustration allowed him much more freedom, and he developed a flat vector style that has remained popular for well over a decade.
Stuart is addicted to vinyl and wherever he goes seeks out a record crate to dig through. He’s also a huge fan of Southampton FC, and led the team out as a mascot back when he was seven years old.
Stuart received a BA in Graphic Design from Croydon University in South London.
First, Stuart will pencil a rough for client approval, before moving over to his computer to create the image. Adobe Illustrator is his software of choice – perfect for his vector graphic style.
Stuart’s style has evolved a more contemporary flat graphic look, with some textures used within the flat colours to give the work some depth. He adds charm, humour and some warmth to his illustrations wherever he can, in tune with the brief.
Stuart is one of those rare illustrators that is versatile and quick - able to construct complex illustrations with speed and ease. My project was pretty demanding and Stuart was able to distill the concepts into clear, beautiful designs.

Stuart is a pleasure to work with. Always timely and cheerful.
His illustrations for Wheaton College’s fundraising campaign (featured in Wheaton magazine) have helped shape the brand of the campaign.
Commissioning’s have included both conceptual illustrations and building renderings – all masterfully created in a way that is consistent, yet fresh.
We look forward to our partnership through the remainder of the campaign season and well as future endeavors.

I have commissioned Stuart for numerous illustrations for Jetstar magazine. He is highly creative and very competent even when the brief seems difficult. He’s able to take a concept with an open mind and always delivers above and beyond expectations. I cannot recommend Stuart highly enough, a friendly guy and pleasure to work with.

Stuart was fantastic to work with, we threw him a tough brief with a tight deadline and he delivered above and beyond what we expected. His illustration style is incredibly unique but can work within the aesthetic of any client.
